Żupan Garments

The Żupan is the daily man’s garment worn in many parts of Central and Eastern Europe from the 16th through 19th centuries.

Żupan were often worn by the Polish, Lithuanian and Ukrainian nobales and warriors at home and in battle. Żupans were made of often homespun wools and linens but wealthier nobles would have fine garments made of silks and brocades. They were usually tight collars with many small buttons down the front and at the cuffs which were attached by cord loops. They had extra long sleeves, very form fitting above the navel and bell shaped below for riding and combat.
